According to The Economist, 2020 brought, among so much bad stuff, also a few positive changes. For instance the companies‘ growing awareness of their employees’ health and how going a bit of the extra mile when caring for them really adds to culture and motivation. That’s why they claim the Head of health and welbeing will have a growing impact on a company’s doing.
These days it’s hard to convince businesses to invest in external resources that are not directly linked to their core operations. But at the same time, the hands (workforce) have never been this far away from the head (management). This is a widening gap, since people are afraid of losing their jobs and or falling ill. There is no silver bullet cure for the uncertainty that 2020 brought along. But companies that did invest in their staff (healthy choices and food offering, sports-activities, ongoing education etc.), playing the long game, can harvest the fruit of this strategy in a year like this.
I believe that getting your best talents back to the HQ and ramping up after the pandemic so that everybody is performing at its best has to include health and wellbeing.
