The Danish track squad set up a new world record in the 4000m team pur\u00adsuits at the UCI Track Cycling World Cham\u00adpi\u00adon\u00adship in Ber\u00adlin today. It took the 4 riders only 3min44sec to cover 4000m \u2013 and this with a stan\u00adding start. The team rea\u00adches top speeds of way bey\u00adond 70km\/\u200bh and aver\u00ada\u00adges 63.8km\/h.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ener\u00adge\u00adti\u00adcal\u00adly this equ\u00adals an avera\u00adge power abo\u00adve 500 Watts during almost 4 minu\u00adtes with peaks in the high 800\u2019s. The power out\u00adput of each rider is quite sto\u00adcha\u00adstic, depen\u00adding on the posi\u00adti\u00adon he\u2019s riding in. The team swit\u00adches the lead regu\u00adlar\u00adly and needs to be pro\u00adper\u00adly in sync.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

For the rest of the time they rely on aero\u00adbic and anae\u00adro\u00adbic gly\u00adco\u00adly\u00adsis (they burn carbs). Sta\u00adtis\u00adtics show that over 4 minu\u00adtes anae\u00adro\u00adbic ener\u00adgy pro\u00adduc\u00adtion con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtes only by a mere 30% to total ener\u00adgy expen\u00addit\u00adu\u00adre, but this is enough to pro\u00addu\u00adce uncom\u00adfor\u00adta\u00adble blood lac\u00adta\u00adte values.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

If we look at the total ener\u00adgy cost to ride this world record, it\u2019s a ridi\u00adcu\u00adlous low num\u00adber.
